All About Window Visors: A Beginner's Guide

Let's talk about things we use every day but might not think much about, like toothpicks and light switches. Window visors belong in this group too! They're handy, but often overlooked. In this article, we'll explore their history and how they actually work.

The Story Behind Window Visors

Window visors, also known as vent visors or rain guards, have a history rooted in the automotive industry. Initially designed to provide protection from rain while allowing airflow into the vehicle, window visors have evolved over time. They were first introduced as aftermarket accessories but are now often integrated into the design of modern vehicles. Today, window visors not only offer practical benefits like reducing wind noise and preventing rain from entering the cabin but also add a touch of style to cars, trucks, and SUVs.

What Exactly Are Window Visors and Do They Actually Work?

Window visors are these slim, often transparent add-ons you see on the top of car windows. They're designed to keep rain out while allowing fresh air to flow in. But do they really work? Absolutely! They deflect raindrops away from your window, so you can crack it open a bit even when it's raining without getting soaked inside. Plus, they can reduce wind noise when you're driving with the windows down. So, yes, they're pretty handy!

A Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Window Deflectors on Your Car

Most window deflectors are offered in either a two-piece front set or four-piece front and rear set. For tape-on deflectors, clean the surface with rubbing alcohol, peel off the adhesive backing, align the deflector with the window frame, and press firmly to adhere. Repeat for each deflector. For in-channel wind deflectors, place the front end on the outer windowsill weatherstrip, slide into the channel, and gently bend towards you. Ensure the rear end slips into the rear window channel, tucking the flange securely.

Both methods require no drilling and can be done easily in your garage, driveway, or parking lot.
